Battlefield 4 Community Test Environment Update


We released the Battlefield 4 Community Test Environment (CTE) in early May, and have since then made good progress on improving the game together with our fans. In this blog post, we wanted to share some of the things that we’ve been able to achieve thanks to you.

We’ve tested tons of things in the CTE, ranging from general gameplay tweaks to bug fixes. Many hours have been spent by the team watching live streamed gameplay, analyzing telemetry data, and of course, interacting with the players on the forums. It’s been a tremendous help to the team and we thank all those participating.

Improving Netcode

Making improvements to the “Netcode” in Battlefield 4 has been a top priority for us. Some of the items we’ve been specifically looking at is how to decrease the feeling of getting killed when behind cover and getting killed without initially seeing a damage indicator. The improvements we did were released in June, and we’re looking at testing out additional fixes during the coming months.

Core Gameplay

The core gameplay initiative has started, and in the first phase, we’re looking at making improvements and fixes related to the new Dragon’s Teeth expansion pack. One of the main items that we wanted to test was the all-new Ballistics Shield, and based on the feedback that we received we made the following changes that’ll make it for the release of Dragon’s Teeth:

 Shield bash damage has been tweaked, it is no longer possible to one-hit kill enemies. The Ballistics shield now better matches with the initial design intent
 Single tank AP-rounds now kill those carrying the Ballistics Shield, something that previously wasn’t possible.

Rush Tweaks

If you’re a fan of Rush, you’ll want to jump into the CTE and try out the new changes we’re currently testing on the Siege of Shanghai, Zavod 311 and Operation Locker to start. The main focus of these changes has been to increase the balance and flow of the Rush round. Often, this means making it easier for the attackers to tackle certain MCOMs. Some general tweaks have also been made, such as:

• Commander has been removed by default in Rush
• Radar sweep has been reduced around attackers base
 Many per map specific changes, MCOM placement and cover passes.

Apart from these bigger initiatives, here are some of the areas of improvements that we will be looking at in the future:

• General Weapon tweaks/balance
 Weapon Suppression tuning
 3P Head-flinch dampening
 Visual recoil ADS tuning
 Vehicle tuning/balance
 Game modes: Rush, Continued tweaks to Obliteration Competitive and Conquest small
 HUD improvements and bug fixes

As the Battlefield Hardline closed beta comes to an end, we hand over to Steve Papoutsis, VP and GM of Visceral Games, thanking all beta players for their participation.

The Battlefield Hardline beta is now closed, we want to thank everyone who took part! Running a beta during E3 was definitely something that was hard to pull off, but we did it for two reasons. First, we want your feedback early. We’re listening to it, we’re acting on it and it’s going to help make Hardline a better game when we launch in October. Second, we’re gamers like you. It’s great to hear about games and see games, but we want to play games. And even though it is still early and we have a lot of work left to do, it was important to us that you could see and feel for yourself what we’re doing with Hardline.

But this beta is only the beginning. . .

In the months ahead we’ll be revealing more details about what we’re doing in multiplayer as well as what the team at Visceral is bringing to the singleplayer campaign. As many of you know from previous Visceral games, we have a unique way of telling our stories and engrossing players in our worlds, and Hardline will be no different. We are doing some cool new things in how we present the campaign, similar to what you see when watching episodes of your favorite TV shows. It’s something different and we’re fired up about it. Keep your eyes out for more on this next month.

And, of course, there’s multiplayer, the staple of any Battlefield game. The Battlefield Hardline beta was just a small portion of what is in store. We have plenty of new modes in the game that really play off the cop and criminal theme, as well as the return of fan-favorites. The variety in maps is also something that Battlefield fans have never experienced before, from subterranean grow labs to the streets of Miami, complete with all the vibe and flavor that city has to offer.

If you didn’t get a chance to play the Battlefield Hardline beta this time around don’t worry, we have your back as we’ll be launching another beta this fall on all announced platforms that will showcase more. Stay tuned to hear more later this year.

We have a lot of cool things up our sleeve, but we also have a lot of hard work ahead of us. It’s an electric time all of us here at Visceral, and we’re pumped to tell you more about the game over the months ahead.

Minecraft snapshot 14w26c

Update: Snapshot 14w26c has been released to fix broken block IDs, world generation in the nether and the end and some more bugs.
Update: Snapshot 14w26b has been released to fix some chunk loading issues.

You have to use a backup of your world that was never opened with 14w26a or 14w26b, otherwise opening the world save in 14w26c will destroy most of the chunks in your saved world.
Never use snapshots without making a backup of your saved worlds first.

Wednesday is the new Thursday! We’ve decided that Thursday wasn’t very optimal for us to release snapshots on so we’ve moved the weekly snapshots to Wednesday instead. Adjust your schedules and order a new calendar!

Last weeks snapshot was quite volatile, we’ve been working hard this week on fixing bugs and adding new ones in their place. There may not be many cool features, but this weeks snapshot comes with some optimizations, bug fixes and even more rewrites bringing us closer to the plugin API!

Battlefield Hardline Video Montage Competition Winners

Battlefield Hardline Video Montage Competition Winner


In the Only in Battlefield Hardline Video Montage Competition announced last week, we asked you to hit the streets in the Battlefield Hardline beta, record your cops and criminals adventures, and compile them into an epic montage. Minecraft 1.7.10 on Thursday! More Realms!

Hey all!

I just wanted to let you know that 1.7.10 will be released on Thursday and I hope you will enjoy the update. It’s mostly new features and fixes for Realms, but who knows what other things it may contain! Personally, I’m really excited about the world uploader. It let’s you bring local worlds to Realms so they can be enjoyed by your friends 24/7!

  • World uploader – upload your local world to Realms (finally!)
  • Command blocks! (finally!)
  • Player activity monitor – when and for how long a player has been online (see who plays when you sleep!)
  • Access to more server settings (yey!)
  • Improvements in Realms UI (also yey!)
  • Some bugfixes (why where they put in there in the first place?)
  • And many more… (we just don’t want to look lazy, that is why that sentence is in there)

Top Squad Play Challenge Winners

For sharing this Top Squad Play with us, TheEMUReview and his squad mates will get to create a custom in-game Patch, based on the Squad’s own design ideas. This Patch will be awarded to all players in the full retail version of Battlefield Hardline, releasing October 21st in North America (in Europe beginning October 23, and in the UK on October 24).

Grappling Hook Community Mission: Complete


The last few days of the Battlefield Hardline beta have been a great example of community cooperation. Last week, we launched a Community Mission where we asked you to collectively fire 1,000,000 Grappling Hooks in-game. Count the zeroes again – that’s a full million.

You did not let us down. After 144 hours, over 1,000,000 shots were fired. As promised, this feat will be awarded with a unique Battlefield Hardline Patch. This in-game Patch will be rewarded to everyone who purchases and plays Battlefield Hardline at retail launch in October, regardless if you played the beta or not.

So, congratulations and kudos on your grappling abilites. We hope you will enjoy your reward – and of course Battlefield Hardline itself – this fall.
